Swiggy and Zomato commission for restaurants, explained.
The commission is only one line on your payout statement. Here is every deduction, what each one usually costs, a worked example, and how to keep more of each order.
Updated 10 October 2026
Swiggy and Zomato commission is usually reported between about 18% and 28% of the order value, depending on your contract and city. On top come 18% GST on the commission and fees, a payment fee of about 2%, and any discounts or ads you agree to. As an example, a ₹400 order at 22% commission leaves you about ₹272 (68%) after fees and ₹15 of packaging, before food cost.
What the apps charge for
The apps bring you customers who would never have found you, and in most cities they handle delivery. The commission and fees pay for that. What matters is knowing the full amount, so you can price your app menu properly and decide which orders are worth it.
How much is the commission?
There is no single published rate. Each restaurant signs its own agreement, and rates vary by city, cuisine, volume and whether the app delivers. What has been reported:
- 8% to 28%: the range given by the president of the Bruhat Bengaluru Hotels Association in July 2026 (reported by The Week).
- About 18% to 28%: the range most 2026 commission breakdowns quote. MenuManager’s (May 2026) gives Zomato 18% to 28% and Swiggy 17% to 25%, and 25% to 35% or more once other deductions are added.
- Up to 30% in all: when Zomato added a long-distance fee in 2025, it said no restaurant partner would be asked to pay more than 30% of the order value (reported by Outlook Business).
Your own rate is in your agreement and on every weekly payout statement. Use that number, not an article’s.
Every deduction on the payout
| Deduction | Typical size | Can you claim it back? |
|---|---|---|
| Commission | About 18% to 28% of the order (reported ranges) | No |
| Payment collection fee | About 2% of the order (reported by The Week, July 2026) | No |
| GST on commission and fees | 18% of those charges | Not if you charge 5% GST without input tax credit, as most standalone restaurants do |
| Long-distance fee (Zomato) | ₹20 for 4–6 km, ₹40 beyond 6 km, on orders of ₹150 or more (from May 2025, as reported) | No |
| Discounts you fund | Your share of offers you opted into | No |
| Ads on the app | What you choose to spend | No |
| Packaging | Your own cost per order | Not a deduction, but a real cost |
| TDS | 0.1% of the order (e-commerce TDS: section 393(1) of the Income-tax Act, 2025, earlier section 194-O) | Yes, it counts towards your income tax |
Not taken from you: the 5% GST on the food, which the app pays under section 9(5) of the CGST Act since 1 January 2022, and the platform fee the customer pays the app. How GST works on app orders is in GST on restaurant food.
A worked example
This is an example to show the method, not a real restaurant’s statement. A ₹400 order (food value before GST), 22% commission, 2% payment fee, ₹15 of packaging:
| Example order | No discount | With a ₹40 discount you fund |
|---|---|---|
| Order value | ₹400.00 | ₹400.00 |
| Commission 22% | −₹88.00 | −₹88.00 |
| Payment fee 2% | −₹8.00 | −₹8.00 |
| 18% GST on commission and fee | −₹17.28 | −₹17.28 |
| Discount you fund | ₹0.00 | −₹40.00 |
| Packaging | −₹15.00 | −₹15.00 |
| You keep, before food cost | ₹271.72 (68%) | ₹231.72 (58%) |
How commission is worked out on a discounted order depends on your agreement; here it is kept on the full ₹400 to keep the example simple. At 20 such orders a day, the commission, fee and GST come to about ₹68,000 a month. Put your own numbers into the Zomato and Swiggy commission calculator, which also shows the app price that leaves you the same as a dine-in sale.
Ways to keep more of each app order
- Read the weekly payout statement line by line. Check the commission rate, every campaign, ad charges and long-distance fees against what you agreed.
- Opt into discounts only when the numbers work. In August 2026, after Bengaluru restaurant associations threatened to stop taking orders, Zomato agreed to make promotions opt-in with OTP approval and Swiggy agreed to seek consent and refund campaigns run without it (Financial Express, via Angel One).
- Price your app menu for the app. Many restaurants list dishes higher on the apps to cover the costs above. Read your agreement first, as some limit how far app prices can differ from your own menu.
- Treat ads as a test. Compare the orders an ad brought with what it cost, and stop the ones that don’t pay.
- Ask about your rate when your order volume grows or your agreement comes up for renewal.
- Win regulars directly. Guests who already know you can order by phone, WhatsApp or your own page. See how to get orders without Swiggy and Zomato.
App orders in Venditas
Venditas does not connect to Swiggy or Zomato yet. You punch app orders in at the counter and mark them as Swiggy or Zomato, so your reports show those sales next to dine-in, takeaway and phone orders. For guests who order direct, Venditas includes your own online ordering page: no commission, the same ₹3 as any paid bill after 30 days free, with pickup or your own delivery.
Rates and fees in this guide are as reported on the dates shown and differ by contract. Your agreement and payout statement are the final word.

Quick answers
How much commission do Swiggy and Zomato charge restaurants?
It depends on your contract, city and size. In July 2026 the Bruhat Bengaluru Hotels Association put commissions at 8% to 28% (reported by The Week), and published 2026 breakdowns mostly quote about 18% to 28% (one in May 2026 gave Zomato 18% to 28% and Swiggy 17% to 25%). Your exact rate is in your agreement and on your weekly payout statement.
Is GST charged on Swiggy and Zomato commission?
Yes, 18% GST on the commission and other fees. Standalone restaurants that charge 5% GST cannot claim input tax credit, so for them this GST is a real cost.
Who pays the 5% GST on food ordered through the apps?
The app. Since 1 January 2022 the delivery app collects and pays the 5% GST on restaurant food it delivers, under section 9(5) of the CGST Act. Your payout starts from the food value before GST.
What is the TDS on Swiggy and Zomato payouts?
0.1% of the order value under the e-commerce TDS rule: section 194-O of the old Income-tax Act, now section 393(1) of the Income-tax Act, 2025 from 1 April 2026. It was 1% until 30 September 2024. It is not a cost: it shows in your annual tax statement (Form 168 from 2026-27, earlier Form 26AS) and counts towards your income tax.
What is Zomato’s long-distance fee for restaurants?
From May 2025 Zomato added ₹20 for orders of ₹150 or more delivered 4 to 6 km away and ₹40 beyond 6 km, and said no restaurant would pay more than 30% of the order value (reported by Outlook Business, July 2025).
Do I have to fund discounts on the apps?
Discount campaigns are meant to be your choice. In August 2026, after Bengaluru restaurant associations raised the issue, Zomato agreed to make promotions opt-in with OTP approval and Swiggy agreed to seek consent first (Financial Express, via Angel One). Check every campaign on your payout statement.
