To prevent theft in a restaurant, give every staff member their own login, limit who can cancel items and give discounts, require a reason for each, and check one list of all cancellations, discounts and changed bills every day. Rules you set once
- Discount limit for the counter, for example 10 percent. Bigger discounts need a manager.
- Who can cancel items already sent to the kitchen: counter, captains, or managers only.
- Who can make items free (complimentary).
- Whether captains can print bills or take payment.
- Captains never give discounts.
- Only the owner adds managers.
A cancelled item shows what the kitchen had done with it, so “cancelled after it was served” stands out.
Close every day with a cash count
At day close the counter counts the drawer, note by note if they like. Venditas shows what should be there: opening cash, plus cash from bills and dues, minus cash expenses and cash paid to suppliers. The difference shows as short or extra, with the name of whoever closed the day.
Tips paid out of the drawer are recorded too, so they do not show up as a shortage.

Why names matter

Quick answers
How do restaurant staff steal through the billing system?
The common ways are cancelling an item after the food has gone out and pocketing the cash, giving unauthorised discounts, reprinting a bill and changing it, and short cash at day end. Each of these leaves a trace in a good POS.
What does the Venditas watch list show?
Every cancelled item and order, discount, free item, reprint, bill changed after printing, table move or merge, tip, stock correction, expense and staff or PIN change, with who did it, when and why.
Can staff cancel items without permission?
You decide. In Setup → Permissions choose whether the counter and captains can cancel items already sent to the kitchen. Every cancellation needs a reason.
Can a cashier give any discount they want?
No. You set the highest discount the counter can give, for example 10 percent. Anything above needs a manager, and every discount needs a reason.
Why does each staff member need their own PIN?
So every order, cancellation and payment carries a real name. Shared logins make the watch list useless.
